STORIES & NEWS FROM OVATION HEARTWOOD PRESERVE

Glen and Carol VanHaren

Glen and Carol VanHaren were originally from the Chicago area and met on a blind date set up by Carol’s now brother-in-law. The date was a bowling outing. The VanHarens recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary. Their lives were blessed with two sons, Michael and Jeremy. Michael joined the U.S. Navy after high school and retired after serving over 22 years. Michael resides in Chesapeake, VA. Jeremy attended the University of Michigan initially as a music performance major and later switched to Computer Science. He is employed with CSG in Omaha. Seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren keep Carol and Glen active and involved in their extended family. Glen was drafted and spent two years with the U.S. Army in service with the 7th Data Processing Unit as a computer operator at the Pentagon and Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland. Glen’s career was with the Grand Trunk Western Railroad in the Michigan area. According to Carol, her career path started slow and built up over the years. She was involved with Coventry Jewelry and Shaklee product sales and worked at her Parish office in Michigan. Carol then had a long-term career with Sun Microsystems. The VanHarens were attracted to Ovation because of the hospitality philosophy displayed by the Ovation marketing team and the monthly rental program. They were impressed with the presentation and the timely follow-up to their questions. Carol remarked that she is looking forward to getting to know their new neighbors and sharing common interests such as games, cards and mahjong. She will enjoy the close proximity to a variety of restaurants. Glen said that he is sure he will have many “favorites” when he moves in.
